The first-everLexus LBX
THE FIRST-EVER LEXUS LBX HYBRID COMPACT SUV RANGE IS ON SALE IN AUSTRALIA
Lexus has brought style, sophistication, and hybrid efficiency and performance to the compact SUV segment with the arrival of the first-ever LBX in Australia.
Offered in two highly specified model grades, the LBX range offers signature Lexus Takumi craftsmanship, cutting-edge design, and high levels of technology in a compelling package perfect for youthful customers with active lifestyles.
The LBX is the smallest model in the Lexus range and the luxury lifestyle brand's first B-segment SUV, helping Lexus to expand its range to meet the needs of a diverse and growing customer base.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas said the first-ever LBX brings premium refinement and thoughtful luxury to a new subset of Lexus owners.
"The first-ever LBX breaks new ground for Lexus. It is proof that luxury is not dictated by vehicle size," he said.
"With LBX, our designers have created a modern and compact urban SUV that delivers big on Lexus fundamentals of quality and craftsmanship, while offering responsive performance and great dynamics.
"LBX is also in keeping with our Lexus Electrified strategy of offering the latest in hybrid technology with an advanced, fuel-efficient powertrain."
The two-grade LBX range opens from $47,550 plus on-road costs1 for the LBX Luxury 2WD, providing strong value thanks to its highly specified standard equipment.
Luxury grade is identifiable by 18-inch alloy wheels with a mixed dark grey and bright machined finish, LED headlamps with Adaptive High-beam System2, rear spoiler and privacy glass, and a two-tone body finish including a black roof.
Inside, the LBX Luxury has black NuLux®7 upholstery for the seats, steering wheel, door and instrument panel trim, front and rear carpet floor mats, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control with remote function, Qi wireless phone charging pad3, auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, smart entry & start and a powered tailgate.
Multimedia connectivity is enabled by a 9.8-inch touchscreen display with satellite navigation4, paired with a six-speaker Panasonic audio system compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay®5 and wireless Android Auto™6. Three front and two rear USB-C ports as well as front and rear 12V accessory sockets provide extra connectivity and charging options.
The Lexus Safety System+ provides a comprehensive suite of safety features, which is designed to help provide protection for drivers, passengers, and other road users.2
Sports Luxury grade is differentiated from the outside by unique black 18-inch alloy wheels and a unique ornamentation film on the rear pillar which combines thin strips of gloss and non-gloss finish to create a stylish geometric expression.
Inside, Sports Luxury gains combination of NuLux®7 and Ultrasuede®7 upholstery, suede cloth trim for the door, instrument panel, and console box, and a premium leather shift knob and heated steering wheel.
Other specification upgrades for Sports Luxury include a colour Head-Up Display (HUD) with touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, multi-colour ambient interior lighting and a 13-speaker Mark Levinson®7 Premium Audio system with metal speaker grilles and Active Noise Control noise-cancelling technology. Lexus Teammate Advanced Park2 is also included to make parking even easier.
All LBX grades employ the same hybrid-electric powertrain teaming a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor generator and nickel-metal hydride battery to offer superb fuel economy and refined, spritely performance.
The 1.5-litre M15A-FXE petrol engine provides excellent thermal efficiency and low weight, with multiple Lexus-exclusive enhancements to reduce vibrations and enhance smoothness.
Peak power output for the petrol engine is rated at 67kW at 5500rpm and 120Nm of torque between 3800-4800rpm, mated to a continuously variable transmission.
The petrol engine is paired with a hybrid transaxle on the front axle including a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 69kW/185Nm, powered by a compact nickel-metal hydride battery stored underneath the rear seat.
Peak combined output for the three-cylinder hybrid powertrain is rated at 100kW, with low combined fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100km8 on the combined cycle and average CO2 emissions of 85 grams per km9.
Sports Luxury grade is also offered with an AWD powertrain which adds an induction asynchronous electric motor on the rear axle, producing 4.7kW/52Nm while retaining the 2WD's 100kW peak power output.
The front suspension of the LBX 2WD grades feature a newly developed MacPherson strut arrangement with updated suspension geometry to ensure excellent straight-line stability and minimal understeer.
At the rear, the front-drive variants use a lightweight and exceptionally rigid torsion beam while the AWD variant employs a trailing arm type two-link double wishbone set-up accommodating the rear motor.
Underpinned by the strong and lightweight GA-B platform, the LBX chassis is strengthened with multiple braces, short pitch welding techniques and over 19 metres of structural adhesive to maximise torsional rigidity and enhance steering feel.
Safety and security for LBX customers is enhanced with a complimentary three-year subscription to Lexus Connected Services10, which may provide up-to-date vehicle information and functionality through the use of the Lexus Connected smartphone app11.
Facilitated through the fitment of an inbuilt Data Communication Module (DCM), Lexus Connected Services10 may offer customers real-time vehicle information, remote functionality, and extra security in the event of an emergency.
A three-year complimentary subscription to the Lexus Encore12 lifestyle program is also provided at no extra cost, affording customers a range of benefits including exclusive offers with luxury hotel partners, invites to unforgettable events and experiences, and fuel discounts at participating Ampol service stations13.
The LBX comes standard with a five-year/unlimited kilometre Lexus Warranty Experience for customer peace of mind14.
